Thanks.
NB do you know if it was the German 3Watt generator rule that killed the GH6/AG dynohubs? I can’t see anything in either of the UK bike light standards BS6102/3 or BS3648 that would have affected them.
Or was it just lack of demand?
A perceived lack of demand made S-A/Raleigh unwilling to invest in the necessary new plant to meet the German 3 watt rule. In 1982, S-A demonstrated the XAG, an alloy-shelled AW 3-speed combined with a 30-pole ceramic magnet that could put out 3 watts at 6 volts. It was claimed to exceed all the then new technical standards, such as ISO DP674. But reaction wasn’t positive enough to induce the bean counters to invest and demand for the existing products was waning. Consequently, within two years, S-A pulled the plug on all Dynohubs.

Hello.
Your Sturmey Story book looks interesting but unavailable:
could you sell it in pdf form?

Hi Alan,
Thanks for your message. Although I have not been involved in the book’s sale or distribution for more than a decade, and derive no income from it, it is still available and at the 1987 price. The Veteran-Cycle Club has copies (clubsales@v-cc.org.uk) or you can buy from Dorothy Pinkerton (Tel: +44 (0)121 350 0685).
Hope that helps!
Tony
